Los Angeles

It’s a Wrap!

As you know from reading my blog, I’ve been shooting for a travel app called, The Local Way. Over the past two weeks, my co-host, Jax Austin, and I have been showing the cameras around our Los Angeles.…

Salvadorian Food at the Grande Central Market in Downtown LA

When I was going to the University of Southern California, I lived in downtown Los Angeles. At the time, the area was just starting to undergo a revival. There were a few new restaurants and bars popping up. Old warehouses and office buildings were beginning to be converted into lofts. I haven’t spent much time downtown since my college years, so when I hung out there over the last couple weeks, it was really fun to see how far it has come. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in LA – especially the Art District. Despite all the new additions, I couldn’t help but to revisit one of my favorite places that hasn’t changed much for…

Behind the Scenes: LA, The Local Way (VIDEO)

Above is little video I put together from my shoot yesterday for a travel guide called The Local Way. In this video, we are in Downtown LA at one of my favorite restaurants, Church and State. The Local Way is a travel video guide series that will be available as a smartphone app very soon. The goal of the series is to give travelers an inside look into major cities around the world by showing restaurants and activities that locals love and that you likely won’t find otherwise. I’m one of the hosts for the LA guide.…

Filming in Los Angeles

The blog has been a little quiet this week because I am shooting a new video series! A video travel guide called The Local Way is featuring me. In it, I show you around my hometown of Los Angeles from a local perspective. Yesterday we shot in Downtown LA. And in the picture below I was at Eat. Drink. Americano, a restaurant with delicious food and imported beer on tap. And later…

El Matador Beach – Malibu

I’m back in my hometown of Los Angeles this week. I’m here to shoot some fun travel videos for a company that I will be telling you all about very soon! But for now, I have to let  you know about a place in LA that I love to visit. Los Angeles is the land of hidden gems where so many great experiences are cached within its intimidating urban sprawl. As a visitor, exploring the city can be harder in LA than in other cities. And it is best to plan out your days around specific activities in localized neighborhoods. Malibu is a wonderful part of LA to choose to spend the day. While you are there you may want…

An Introduction to Salsa Dancing in Los Angeles (VIDEO)

Salsa dancing is a fun and social dance that is popular around the world. These days you can find a salsa club in major cities in every corner of the globe from Jerusalem to Rome, Tokyo, to Cape Town. Wherever it goes, this dance brings with it an ethos that leaves prejudice and cultural differences at the door. Salsa is an unifier. Well before I began Travel with Kate, I learned about salsa while living in Paris for a semester abroad. Soon after, I moved home to Los Angeles where I took up salsa dancing as a serious hobby. And in doing so, I was surprised and delighted to find such a flourishing scene. I sold a cut of this…
