Learning the way of the sea turtle in Maui

It was a beautiful morning in Maui. The sun had already peaked up over the mountains to the East and a light, humid breeze rustled through the palm trees. I ate breakfast at the lovely buffet at the Fairmont Kea Lani at 8am. Papaya and strawberries. Toast with smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers. A spinach, mushroom omelet. A pot of coffee. And by 8:45, I was driving down the road to Makena Landing Park (less than 10 minutes away) to go for a kayak and snorkel with Maui Kayaking Adventures. Despite this idyllic morning, I was feeling tense. Just after my kayaking tour, I needed to hustle back to the hotel for hair and makeup for a video I…

A Trip to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas!

Vegas. At every turn there is something that will awe you, overwhelm you or at least cause you to shake your head in disbelief. It is the ultimate saturation of the senses. But however grand Las Vegas is – the Grand Canyon will impress you more. Last week, I went to Vegas with a friend from out of town – from France to be exact. And he made a request. He said, we must also visit the Grand Canyon. He could not possibly go back to Europe and explain that when traveling to Las Vegas he hadn’t also visited the Grand Canyon. As an American, or rather as a Los Angeles native, I reasoned with him saying, nobody from here…

Imagine Waiting for your Flight in a Park

I was recently in Palm Springs for a family wedding. And due to the festivites, all I saw of the town was the airport and the hotel. Yet both proved to be quite unique and gave me reason to come back. Here’s my article about the hotel. As for the airport, you might be thinking, an airport is an airport – but no, not at Palm Springs International. They have turned the airport experience into a real walk in the park. No, really, the main terminal is an outdoor park!…

Palm Springs and The Parker Hotel

Going to a resort hotel in the desert is a confusing experience. You go out into the hot desert and then you check in to a hotel that does everything possible to make you feel like you are at a beach resort – but there is no beach. And secluded with little distractions you are forced to relax and surrender to the tranquility of your surroundings. Over last weekend, I went to a family wedding in the California desert held at The Parker Palm Springs. Part historical momento and part LA hipster getaway spot, this hotel is a stunner. Prepare yourself for these photos!…

Party on Beale St (VIDEO)

If you are looking to visit iconic destinations around the United States and get a feel for what this country is all about, Memphis, Tennessee needs to be on your list. And one of the main attractions is Beale St – a rowdy place full of blues, music history, party goers and finger-licking-good ribs and craw fish. For more about what to do in Memphis, go to my article: Put Memphis on Your Bucket List.…

Put Memphis on Your Bucket List!

In Memphis is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Over the weekend, I celebrated its 50th anniversary of the hospital along with my family, fellow fundraisers, doctors, clinicians, and patients! It was a momentous occasion. You may be wondering what the connection is! Well, my grandfather, Danny Thomas, founded St. Jude in 1962. He hoped to help save lives of children worldwide because he believed that no child should die in the dawn of life. And from its humble roots 50 years ago, St. Jude has become an internationally renowned hospital and research center finding cures for pediatric cancer and sickle cell as well as developing vaccines for deadly pneumonia’s and influenza. And that’s not all – not even close. Please…
