Holi is a festival to welcome the Spring. It is celebrated widely in Western and Northern India over two days with bonfires, parties, live music, dance and food – and of course colored powder. It is said to be a time when social structures that restrict people from interacting freely based on age, sex, or caste are pushed aside. And everybody let’s loose. I just got back from Mexico on a trip to the Yucatan Peninsula along the stretch known as the Mayan Riviera. Before I went, I did a fair bit of research about the region. And I found two very common threads. In the Mayan Riviera, there are tons of accommodations and attractions. And secondly, I should be AFRAID. Everyone seemed to have some warning to give. Salsa dancing is a fun and social dance that is popular around the world. These days you can find a salsa club in major cities in every corner of the globe from Jerusalem to Rome, Tokyo, to Cape Town. Wherever it goes, this dance brings with it an ethos that leaves prejudice and cultural differences at the door. Salsa is an unifier.
