Speaking at the Women’s Travel Festival!

Last Saturday, on International Women’s Day, I took part in a wonderful event empowering women to travel. It was the first annual, Women’s Travel Festival held in New York City. And it was clear that from the seasoned, career-travelers on stage to the festival attendees – the room was full of friends. Wait. Not just friends, but sisters. A love for travel, solo or otherwise, means you embrace new friendships and new adventures. And the festival was packed with open-hearted and brave women coming together over their common passions. For that and many other reasons, I was so honored to be one of the speakers.…

To Seattle, I Go

So, today is the big day! It’s my first flight since the LAX shooting. And I have very mixed emotions. For one, I am overjoyed that I am feeling courageous enough to go through an airport, pass security check and board a flight. Secondly, I can’t wait to take off. To feel like I’ve regained my freedom – my freedom to do my job and to live life as I want to. On the other hand,…

The Shooting at LAX – My Personal Account

On Nov. 1st, 2013, I was on my way to New York City from Los Angeles to celebrate my 30th birthday. Like any soon-to-be 30-year-old, this was a big life moment, fraught with fond memories and cringe-worthy regrets about my 20’s, and excitement and fears about the decade to come. I was planning to fly out of LAX, Terminal 3. But unfortunately for me and even more tragically for others I was bound to cross paths with someone else that morning with a very different agenda. If you are a Travel with Kate follower, you’ve noticed I’ve not been publishing very much content recently. That’s because on that morning, I witnessed something truly horrible. And as I have been recovering…

For Entrepreneurs Who Travel

I consider myself a globetrotter and an entrepreneur. And last year I joined six other globetrotting entrepreneurs in Nicaragua for a long weekend of business development in a collaborative group setting. The event was called, The Ignition Lab. Non-profits, consulting businesses, a travel media platform (that’s me) and a graphic stationary business – we ran the gamut from industry to industry. And despite our varied endeavors we had one thing in common, a goal to turn an entrepreneurial dream into a reality.…

Off the Grid in Nicaragua (VIDEO)

Thanks to a local organization, Empowerment International, I got an intimate look into life in Nicaragua – life far from ex-pat enclaves and tourist zones. What did I find? Well..Watch the video! Also, if you liked the music you can get Moises Gadea’s album HERE. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Empowerment International (EI) for welcoming me in and showing me around. The founder, Kathy Adams, is an astonishing woman who has achieved something very special. Here is an excerpt from EI’s About Us page: EI started in 1998 as a Costa Rican non-profit organization. Soon after, it expanded to Nicaragua. EI’s approach addresses the root cause and the plight of many street children in the slums (‘barrios’)…

Soul-Searching: Travel to Find Your Purpose

Lately, I have been watching Super Soul Sunday, Oprah’s show on OWN. I find it to be outstanding and inspiring beyond any expectations I have for television these days. Her guests from Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra to Gabrielle Bernstein and Eli Wiesel expand my mind in every episode. A few weeks ago, there was something said that keeps popping up into my head. Oprah asked Jean Houston, ‘what is your definition of the soul?’ Her answer, “the lure of our becoming.” As soon as I heard that I said to myself, “that is the definition of travel to me. I travel for the lure of becoming the best, most true version of myself.”…
