This week, here is a soothing West African tune by:
Habib Koité
Koité is a guitarist and singer from Mali. He formed his internationally acclaimed band, Bamada, in 1988. They have five albums and have toured the world.
The more I listened to this song, the more I loved it. That hook, “Wassiye Wassiye” is so catchy and stayed with me throughout the day.Â
Curious about what I was singing, I looked up the lyrics. Let me tell you, it was no small feat finding out what he is saying. Here’s a rough translation…
“For all the happy fathers, you have just had a daughter who looks very much like your wife. You are blessed now with two wives at home.”
Hmm. Ok. I still like the song even though I can’t quite relate to the lyrics.
