Right now, as I type, I am in Hanalei Bay, Kauai on a family vacation.
Hanalei Bay is an ideal Hawaiian getaway destination on the Northern coast of the island because it is devoid of most large chain hotels while it still caters generously to the many tourists who pass through the area year-round.
And since I’ve been here, I’ve been busy.
I’ve gone hiking along the beautiful Na Pali Coast (pictured above), stand-up paddle boarding, outrigger canoeing and exploring the many beaches that line the bay.
Tucked in between the coastline and a majestic mountain range is the lovely town of Hanalei.
The town has a laid-back, island feel. And at first glance, you might assume there is not much to do or that you’ll have to drive across the island to have all your needs met.
Yet upon further inspection, you find everything from restaurants and bars serving up freshly caught fish and tropical fruit cocktails, to a health food store, a yoga studio, massage parlors, bike and board rental shops, and more.
